Remember that ZIP codes were made to make mail delivery easier. They weren't made to correspond to existing boundaries suchas cities, counties, or even states. If it is more efficient for a mail carrier to drive across a state line to deliver mail, the ZIP code"boundary" will cross the state lines. ZIP codes don't usually cross state lines, but some do (65733, 71749, and 73949 are good examples). The complete list of ZIP codes that cross state lines is available as part of our US ZIP code list.

It gets even more complicated when trying to assign a ZIP code to a specific county (as much as 25% cross county lines), congressional district, metro area, time zone, area code, etc. The edges of the boundaries commonly overlap. For the purposes of our free zipcode database by county downloads, we will commonly list either the most common region for the ZIP code or list multiple regions if several exist in the ZIP code.
In 2017, Service Objects provided access to a free downloadable dataset of all US ZIP Codes and Canadian Postal Codes. The dataset is continually maintained and has been extremely popular since we made it available. Today, we are pleased to announce an expanded version of this dataset that now includes geocoordinates for each postal code in the US and Canada.
Our leadership position in contact data quality, with over 4 billion transactions processed to date, allows us to maintain this accurate and up-to-date list of current postal codes. By making this resource freely accessible to all, our goal is to help both our own users and the general public leverage postal and geographic data to improve their business processes. Resources like this are an important part of our service mission, and just one more way that we can help benefit your own business efforts.

Finding the postal codes you need for your post is as simple as few clicks. First select your country of choice to be taken to a list of the administrative divisions of that country. Then select the area where you are trying to send your letter for a list of the available zip codes for that area.
Not sure of the country or the administrative division to choose? Or your country/region is missing in the list? Try entering the address into the search at the top of the page to lookup the right code to use. Also available, try using our country map to find your needed zip/postal code.
The Census Bureau first examined all of the addresses within each census block to define the list of ZIP Codes by block. Next, the most frequently occurring ZIP Code within each block was assigned to the entire census block as a preliminary ZCTA code. After all of the census blocks with addresses were assigned a preliminary ZCTA code, blocks were aggregated by code to create larger areas.
There are six types of crosswalk files available for download. The first 3 crosswalk files are used to allocate ZIP codes to Census tracts, counties or Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSA). The last three are used to allocate Census tracts, counties or Core Based Statistical Areas to ZIP codes. It is important to note that the relationship between the two types of crosswalk files is not a perfectly inverse one. That is to say, you cannot use the ZIP to Tract crosswalk to allocate Census tract data to the ZIP code level. For that you would have to use the Tract to ZIP crosswalk file.

There are many keys to a successful mailing: knowing what your message is, knowing who your audience is, and getting your message delivered to your audience. If you do not already have an address list for your message, then you need to put together, buy, or rent a mailing list.
There are companies that collect and sell information about consumers and businesses. You can buy or rent a mailing list from those companies. Look in the yellow pages under "lists" or "mailing lists" or do an on-line search for list providers in your area.
